Dr. Leslie Vidal recalls very clearly the pivotal moment in her life when she knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. She was 11 years old, attending a Broncos football game with her dad. Bronco’s quarterback, John Elway, went down with an injury, and she watched as the team doctor ran out on the field. Fascinated, she watched the team doctor treat Elway and then turned to her dad and proudly announced with a grin; “I want to be the Bronco’s team doctor when I grow up!” Everyone in the south stands chuckled at the little girl with big dreams. The moment stuck with Leslie and she couldn’t imagine anything better than helping athletes get back on their feet and staying with them through the whole process. Years later, Dr. Leslie Vidal completed both her Orthopedic surgery residency and fellowship, focusing on sports medicine, and then fulfilled her dream by being in the same practice with the Broncos’ team physician who inspired her many years before. Of course, she’s still a big fan of the Broncos!

Leslie Vidal, M.D., is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in arthroscopic management of complex shoulder, hip and knee conditions. With an emphasis in caring for female athletes Dr. Vidal specializes in sports medicine. Originally a Colorado native, Dr. Vidal received her medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine. Her Orthopedic training began at New York Presbyterian Hospital. She completed her residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York, followed by a sports medicine and shoulder fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Vidal’s expertise earned her the position of team physician for the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls Roller Derby Teams and consulting physician for the CWW triathlon team, the Colorado Avalanche, the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Crush. She is proficient in medical and conversational Spanish, having majored in Spanish language and culture at Brown University. She has received many accolades and awards throughout her education and practice and continues to offer compassionate care for patients in Vail, Frisco and Denver Colorado. Dr. Vidal’s recent move to the world-renowned Steadman Clinic sets her apart as the first female orthopedic surgeon in this prestigious practice.

Being a female Orthopedic surgeon is unique, in fact women make up only 5% of the active physicians in orthopedic surgery, according to a recent report from the Association of American Medical Colleges. This gives Dr. Vidal an advantage when working with female athletes because, as an athlete herself, she understands the specific needs and nuances of orthopedic injuries and conditions in the sports world of female athletes. She also offers compassionate care to her male patients, understanding their drive to get back in the game and back to the activities they enjoy.

Dr. Vidal and her husband, fellow orthopedic surgeon Dr. Armando Vidal, keep busy with their two boys and love to call Colorado home. In her free time, Dr. Vidal enjoys downhill skiing, skinning, snowshoeing, hiking and mountain biking.
